" Jeans are the foundation that you build the rest of your outfit off of. They ground your simplicity and balance your complexity. If you have the best new fashionable jacket, your great jeans give it a platform to shine. If you are down to your last clean white t-shirt, your denim completes the simple look. Jeans are the rock that the fashion tides move around. " - Peter Kim, Chief Executive Officer, Hudson Jeans, quoted in Forbs Magazine
Known for their sexy fit, comfortable soft denim fabric, and iconic back pocket flaps, as well as edgy advertising campaigns, Hudson designer jeans gloats on the quality craftsmanship of their body conscious fit. Produced from premium quality denim sourced from textile mills in Europe and Japan, all clothing items at Hudson Jeans have been manufactured in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 2002 by Peter Kim, the brand began with a mission to create fashion forward designer jeans that reflect the company's slogan, "London edge meets L.A. glam."
Kim is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a major in business administration. While his time in college, he worked for his families failing clothing company, which he helped return to profitability. In 2000, Kim launched his first denim brand, Jane's Army, manufactured in Thailand. Sadly, the company folded after one year due to issues with fabric quality. Kim credited the experience with teaching him the importance of having a quality product.
2002, Hudson Jeans launched with a renewed focus on premium fabrics and quality craftsmanship. It's obviously brought him success. When August 2013 rolled around, the company was acquired by a rival denim brand, Joe's Jeans. Hudson Jeans founder, Peter Kim, remains CEO and joined the Joe's Jeans board of directors.
In 2014, Hudson announced a change in philosophy and its approach to what has become a standard practice for most product photography by large fashion retailers. The brand stopped photoshopping the bodies of its models!
Today, Hudson is a sought after jean brand with a world wide following and it might have a little something to do with the variety of styles including the range of skinny jean fits, super skinny, straight leg, boot cut, flare, boyfriend and cropped jeans. Not to mention the offer of mid rise, petite and supermodel (long AF) fits across the product line.
The secret "To create a brand, it has to start within. The whole company has to believe in this brand and want to do it with all their heart... For me, the best decision I made was not giving up on the family business. That sparked everything to come. Make that effort. Don't be afraid to fail. Every successful person has failed at some point. Everybody that plays it safe, they're never going to fail, but they're never going to be a big success." - Peter Kim
